409L stainless steel
The basic overview of 409L stainless steel plate is divided into two types: hot rolling and cold rolling. According to the organizational of the steel, it is divided into five categories: austenitic, austenitic-ferritic, ferritic, martensitic, and precipitation hard. It is required to withstand the corrosion of various acids such as oxalic acid, sulfuric acid-iron sulfate, nitric acid, nitric acid-hfluoric acid, sulfuric acid-copper sulfate, phosphoric acid, formic acid, and acetic acid. It is widely used in industries such as, food, medicine, papermaking, oil, and atomic energy, as well as in construction, kitchenware, tableware, vehicles, household appliances, and parts.
Good high-temperature resistance: It can be used in high-temperature environments, with temperatures reaching around 800℃.
Excellent corrosion resistance:It has outstanding resistance to gas corrosion and is suitable for use in humid environments.
Good machinability and weldability: It is easy to process and weld, it suitable for various industrial manufacturing applications.
409L stainless steel is typically produced through a combination of melting, casting, hot rolling, and cold rolling processes. The raw material is melted in an electric furnace or induction furnace, then cast into billets or slabs. These are subsequently hot rolled into sheets or plates, which are then cold rolled to achieve the desired thickness and surface finish.
The chemical composition of 409L stainless steel is specified by national and international standards, with a maximum carbon content of 0.030%, manganese content of 1.00%, phosphorus content of 0.040%, sulfur content of 0.030%, silicon content of 1.00%, and a minimum chromium content of 11.00%. Titanium is often added to improve high-temperature properties and weldability.
In the United States, 409L stainless steel is typically produced to ASTM A240, ASTM A666, or SAE J249 standards. In Europe, it conforms to EN 10088-2 or DIN 17440 standards. The most common grades of 409L stainless steel are UNS S40903 (ASTM), 1.4512 (EN), and W.-Nr. 1.4512 (DIN).
